Calculus I with Precalculus: A One-Year CourseCustomer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-06-08 Summary: Beward of Comments ... Beware of customer comments, like the two posted before this one. Here's my take on these two indivduals: 1) High School teachers have more training than college professors. High school teachers go through a one-year teaching-credential/certificate program at the graduate level. 2) College professors do not have this rigorous training. In fact, many times they are simply hired by a university to conduct research while their teaching assistants actually teach the class. 3) The high school teacher's comments are supported ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2005-02-16 Summary: A High School Teacher Reports ... This book is user friendly, the problems are accessible, and the students are not confused by the presentation. The Precalc material can be covered rapidly and is well done. I am quite happy about this front matter -- it is perfectly suited for getting the student ready for Calculus. Even if a teacher does not intend to teach any Precalc material, there is a satisfaction in having it available when new-found deficiencies need to be remedied. This is especially true at the high school level. Once into the Calculus chapters, ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | From the successful team of Larson, Hostetler, and Edwards comes a new text carefully developed for one-year courses that combine and integrate material from Precalculus through Calculus I. This text is ideal for instructors who wish to successfully bring students up to speed algebraically within precalculus and transition them into calculus. P.S. Problem-Solving Sections, an additional set of thought-provoking exercises added to the end of each chapter, require students to use a variety...more
Advanced Calculus: A Course in Mathematical Analysis
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2004-10-14 Summary: A good mathematical analysis book for beginners ... I have used this as a textbook several times. Fitzpatrick's book is very clear and well written. The progression is rather gentle. This is especially important for many students struggle with mathematical analysis the first time around. I only wish Fitzpatrick had included more problems, especially more challenging problems. ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2004-06-08 Summary: Good for streamlined Intro to Multivariable Analysis ... Background: B.S. Econ, B.S. Math, Master's Econ classwork, starting Ph.D. Econ Fall 2004. Took undergrad metric spaces and single-var analysis and some graduate real analysis in the past. Sat in on a quarter of undergrad Multivariable Analysis (a previous offering of the same class was cancelled last year before I graduated with the math degree). This book was the assigned text. I did all the class homework. The class covered the Differential part of the multivariable chapters, not the integral part, but skipped the ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | Advanced Calculus is designed for the two-semester course on functions of one and several variables. The text provides a rigorous treatment of the fundamental concepts of mathematical analysis, yet it does so in a clear, direct way. The author wants students to leave the course with an appreciation of the subject's coherence and significance, and an understanding of the ideas that underlie mathematical analysis....more
