Advanced Calculus (5th Edition)
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-01-27 Summary: Excellent in depth treatment of multi-variable calculus ... This text gives a much deeper treatment than what is found in the typical undergraduate textbook for Calc I, II, and III. I would recommend it especially for engineers and physicists who want a much deeper understanding of multivariable calculus without necessarily learning to prove everything, and I would recommend it for advanced math students who want to build some more intuition about calculus before trying to plow through a basic analysis text like Rudin's Principles of Mathematical Analysis. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-11-28 Summary: great for engineering and non-theoretical science majors ... I learned from this book during my sophomore year advanced calculus class. The best thing about this book -- answers to all the problems are included. What a novel idea -- answers! I can't speak for others, but I can still remember doing problem after problem from this book and knowing that I could always check my understanding, or lack understanding, of the material by checking my work against the answers. As to why do I think this book is for engineers and non-theoretical science majors? Very simple, it does *not* ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-01-03 Summary: Excellent service! ... Book was just as described. I am very satisfied. Fast service even I am in Mexico. ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | The Fifth Edition of this leading text offers substantial training in vectors and matrices, vector analysis, and partial differential equations. Vectors are introduced at the outset and serve at many points to indicate geometrical and physical significance of mathematical relations. Numerical methods are touched upon at various points, because of their practical value and the insights they give about theory. Vectors and Matrices; Differential Calculus of Functions of Several Variables;...more
Advanced Calculus, 3rd Edition
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-03-12 Summary: I use it as a reference book ... Basically as the title says, I use it for reference when I want to understand a concept better most often in applied applications that are not directly related to this. I often forget some detail that another author leaves out and expects you to fill in, as is often the case in later classes. This is a good book to fill in a lot gaps and because I have some familiarity with this book, I can quickly go through it to find the important detail and then move on. For what I use it for it is 5 stars. Great reference book! ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-11-02 Summary: As a Reference it Can't be Beat ... OK. There I was in my sophomore year of college taking Quantum Mechanics 101. Trouble was, I was taking linear algebra that semester, and hadn't had second year calculus let alone differential equations. Meanwhile, my QM book was remarkably... uh... concise. By very happy accident, I found Taylor's book in the school library, and I clung to it for dear life throughout the QM course. Folks, it was wonderful! I could crack this thing in the middle and understand what the man was saying! Some explanations were so clear ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2005-08-27 Summary: Excellent Clarity of Presentation ... This book has a clarity unparalleled among books covering similar topics. While it contains an extensive amount of prose, it is still fairly compact: the book explains each result, the motivation for it, and points out possible pitfalls and considerations. Examples are well-chosen, proofs are easily followed. The order of the book is a bit chaotic, but it's written in such a way that it is easy to skip around in it. My only complaint about this book is that I wish it covered a bit more material. This book might not ...more

Schaum's Outline of Advanced Calculus, Second Edition
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-05-05 Summary: advc ... This is a known product and continues to serve as the best tutoring guide for students with difficulties in advanced calculus. ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-11-16 Summary: Serious error in great book ... The proof of Leibniz theorem on p.194 is completely wrong. The proof uses the mean-value theorem for derivatives, not integrals, and needs uniform continuity to complete. There are numerous typos, including the preface. ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-06-05 Summary: Great reference for advanced calc/analysis ... I have taken extensive coursework in undergraduate calculus, advanced calculus, and a 2-semester real analysis course with Rudin's 'principles.' This book was incredibly helpful to me, because it provides some examples of material that Rudin covers, and these examples helped me gain a better understanding of the material (there are 1370 solved problems!). There is nothing in this book about topology per se, but it does cover just about everything else: numbers, sequences, limits/continuity, derivatives, integrals, ...more

Schaum's Outline of Tensor Calculus (Schaum's)
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-07-25 Summary: Tensor calculus ... One of the best books you'll find covering the tensor analysis. Full of exercises, theory well explained and curious theory applications. Good purchase. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-11-30 Summary: Excellent book ... I used to feel that tensor is difficult to study because of lousy tensor textbooks. However, since I used this book, I could easily make a smooth progress every day without painfulness. As a branch of mathematics, to practice as many as possible execises is extremely important. Without practicing enough exercises with detailed explaination, one can never completely understand and proficiently master tensor. This book is the best in this sense. The explaination and statement are very clear. A typically classic tensor ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-07-15 Summary: Claro y contundente ... ...more

Advanced Calculus: A Friendly Approach
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-05-17 Summary: Great Introduction to Mathematical Analysis ... This book is a very good introduction to mathematical analysis. I highly recommend it. It may not be as rigorous as Rudin but some of the exercises are challenging. I recommend it to bridge the gap between multivariable calculus and introduction to mathematical analysis. It has more than enough content for a two semester course in undergraduate analysis. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2002-12-02 Summary: This is indeed a FRIENDLY introduction of advanced calculus. ... This is an extremely readable book on advanced calculus. This is one of the best math textbooks I have ever seen, concise, clear, and rigorous. You should be able to finish this book with only background in Calculus I & II (and hopefully III). A very good introduction on advanced calculus including vector calculus is provided in this book. This might not be sufficient for a course in analysis, however. For future reading, I would highly recommend Rudin's Principles of Mathematical Analysis. ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2002-07-02 Summary: Great Adv Calc Book! ... Very readable, with good exercise sets and answers/hints in the back of the book. Of all the books I surveyed, including Apostol's, I would recommend this book as "the one" to be used as either the text for a course, or as a companion book to gain newer/more perspective on the subject. ...more
