Admittedly, I've never used another calculus textbook, but I generally found this one to be good enough that I could learn from it. I have read the chapters before and after class and generally found the book to helpful in my understanding of the subject material. Having said that, I like math and have a very strong base in algebra, so the examples never really left me wondering (as so many people have complained about). This book was required for my Calculus II course, and would also be used for Calc I (if I had taken it), as well as Calc III. So far, around 1/3 of the way through the semester, I have found the book to be very helpful. Whenever I had questions about some of the material, I found it was more useful to refer to the book, than my notes. I teach a high school Calculus class for kids who are capable/competent mathematicians, but not really interested in the AP level at an independent school. We like Marv Bittinger's books because they provide a nice balance of applications and connections without losing sight of the math.
