Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-02-22 Summary: Strongly Recommend ... I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is taking Calculus. Each problem is explained step by step and the formulas are constantly reminded. There are a wide range of problems from easy to difficult which makes learning gradual and permanent. The writer has a good sense of humor and is a good teacher. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-12-06 Summary: Great Reference when Studying Calculus ... I bought this book because I couldn't follow while I was reading the textbook and had a hard time following my math teacher at college. So I decided to buy another book for reference, and make it easier for me to understand these concepts, and try them out. I liked how he approached each problem from easy to difficult degree of problems. This book explains it very clearly and what other steps we can approach solving the problem. It also gives you tips, formulas and graphs to memorize too. Awesome content and this book ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-11-25 Summary: Helpful for review ... After a year long absence between my calculus 1 and calculus 2 classes it was suggested to pick up this book for review. this book is not only giving me a thorough review, but keeps my attention. Overall I think the best part of the book is how when working through the problems the method used and the steps taken to complete the problems differ. Unlike a traditional mat book where a set way is presented and the student then applies the formula 25 times in a row before moving on. ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | Now students have nothing to fear … Math textbooks can be as baffling as the subject they’re teaching. Not anymore. The best-selling author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Calculus has taken what appears to be a typical calculus workbook, chock full of solved calculus problems, and made legible notes in the margins, adding missing steps and simplifying solutions. Finally, everything is made perfectly clear. Students will be prepared to solve those obscure problems that were never...more
Calculus Made Easy
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-02-14 Summary: good book ... Just a quick review. This book can really explain things easier than what my text book does. Though some pages of the book are cut off a bit but not really a big problem. ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-11-01 Summary: Clear and succinct, but not easy ... I like math and am a B or B-plus in aptitude; I think I am this book's audience. For me, it has been excellent, but for someone who struggles with math, it might not be as good. The book keeps the new ideas of calculus short and simple (in particular by leaving out the idea of a limit). But it does expect you to be clever with the algebra you already know. The problems ask you to extend what was discussed, not merely to repeat it. As Gardner says, traditional calculus textbooks must include every possible topic, so ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-10-30 Summary: Highly recommend 'Calculus Made Easy' for learning on your own ... Hello! Silvanus Thompson wrote an excellent book. I can see why this is a classic. He does a really good job of explaining calculus in a language that is both simple and understandable. However, I do have an issue with this edition. It is in deplorable shape concerning the format of the text -- pages are out of order, words are missing, and sometimes the text encroaches on the inner margin so far that it is hard to read (you have to open the book really wide). Overall, I give Silvanus Thompson an 'A+' for making a ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-10-11 Summary: How does this follow? ... I love this book, at least up to the bottom of page 23 (I just purchased the second edition from Amazon). There are two equations at the bottom of the page. Let's call them equation 1 and equation 2. Equation 2, the one at the bottom of the page, is supposed to be a restatement of equation 1. I cannot figure out how the author gets from 1 to 2. It seems to me that equation 2 should read [(x)e-2][(1+2dx/x)e-1].Can anyone help me with this? Thanks, Phil M. ...more

[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-01-11 Summary: A Comprehensive Textbook ... The texbook's scope is wide and encompasses algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and various concepts. The last chapter is a preview about calculus. The explanations are lucid and relavant to the exercise sets. In addition, there are numerous mathematical vignettes about concepts and historical people. After the completion of a precalculus sequence, the textbook is excellent as a reference. ...more

Calculus For Dummies Education Bundle
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-09-28 Summary: it helps ... The book is full of smart ass comments and jokes, this to me can get kind of annoying. However I think he did this on purpose to make calculus less drab. as far as the subject matter goes, he chops things up and feeds it to you in little pieces as though you were a baby. Often has too many examples which can make it hard to pay attention at times but I suppose is better than too few. I treat this book as supplementary instruction to my calculus class. I appreciate the pre-calculus review for all the pre calc I forgot ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-03-30 Summary: Good for review ... I have found this to be a good reference tool to ease back in to university classes that require calculus without having to spend money and time to sit through the classes again. This would also be helpful if you are having trouble understanding your current calc class. I liked the workbook. The step by step "work" helps. ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | The mere thought of having to take a required calculus course is enough to make legions of students break out in a cold sweat. Others who have no intention of ever studying the subject have the notion that calculus is impossibly difficult unless you happen to be a direct descendant of Einstein. Well, the good news is that you can master calculus. It’s not nearly as tough as its mystique would lead you to think. Much of calculus is really just very advanced algebra, geometry, and trigonometry....more
