Summary: Best AP calculus review book!
... After having read the rave reviews online and wanting something different from the typical princeton review/barron's books, I ordered this off Amazon because my local Borders/Barnes & Noble did not have any. It is as good as people say it is! Filled with tons of practice problems and concise notes. Unfortunately, the 2007 AP Calculus was unusually hard nation-wide in both the multiple choice and free-response so I'm not going to say I will get a 5... but, this review is the only thing that got me through the exam so

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-06-01 Summary: From an AP Calculus teacher ... This book has almost no differences from the 8th edition other than it is an older edition. Larson covers virtually all topics in calculus with multiple approaches preparing students for success whether it's on the AP exam or taking a course in Calculus. The authors focus on concepts and not just calculations enabling a deeper understanding of calculus. As a teacher, I appreciate this author's work. ...more

[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2002-09-17 Summary: My advice - don't do it alone. ... This book is good because it give you clear (easy) examples of the material it is explaining. The practice problems are also very good because they start off from the most basic then progress to advanced. This books has a lot of practical real world problems. Some of the material can be difficult at times, that's why I suggest you purchase "3,000 Solved Problems in Calculus (Schaums Solved Problems Series)" in addition to this book. The Solved Problems Series helps when you're studying quick examples just before the ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-04-01 Summary: the bridge between a calculus textbook and actual understanding ... This book casually fills in the blanks between knowing what calculus looks like and why it is that it actually works. The authors make it comfortable to get into understanding the calculus without one intimidating and lifeless mechanism after another. This would not be a good book to learn calculus from, but it is truly the best complement to a standard calculus textbook. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-04-22 Summary: Old classic still the best ... Syvanus Thompson wrote numerous books on physics and electromagnetism, math, and engineering topics during his lifetime, but he's most remembered for this great little primer on calculus. Now refurbished by the redoubtable Martin Gardner, who was in his eighties when this was published, if I remember right, it has even more appeal than before. I was most familiar with Gardner from his 25 year stint as mathematical games editor at Scientific American, and for his classic book, Fads and Fallacies in the Name of Science, ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-05-02 Summary: First Calculus Book ... This book is a classic. Richard Feinmann, the Nobel prize-winning physicist said that he first learned calculus from this book. The book is hard-covered but a little on the small side. Still, it has three new chapters added to better explain functions, limits, and differentials. Many regard this as the BEST first calculus book ever made. Incidentally, I found a marvelous SECOND-best book at Amazon to go with it. Titled:"Teach Yourself Calculus" by P. Abbott and Hugh Neil. For those who need calculus, these works should ...more

[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-10-05 Summary: Pretty Good Book..... ... I'm a high school junior and I used this for my calculus II class for Fall 2008 at my local community college as my school does not offer AP Calculus BC. So far, so good, I have no problems with it, the examples are a bit weak though as they pail in comparison to the level of difficulty in some of the exercises. However, as my teacher follows the format of the book directly, (Ch. 7-12) I can learn directly from the book as well as from my teacher, so the book is a good supplement. Since its a calculus II class, I cant ...more
